Sir Ken Robinson

Sir Ken Robinson

I have been watching a series of short lectures and speeches on the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) youtube channel. There is a wide range of subjects, but I want to talk a little about this one;

"How to find your Element"

This short lecture really reasonated with me, so I decided to find out more about the speaker. I had'nt heard of Sir Ken Robinson before, but after doing a little research found him to be very charasmatic and funny. He asks questions about education and the way we value creativity, and he does this with a smile and a joke.

Take a look at his TED talk on "Do Schools Kill Creativity?"

"Why don't we get the best out of people? We've been educated to become good workers, rather than creative thinkers. Students with restless minds and bodies. Far from being cultivated for their energy and curiosity, are ignored or even stigmatized, with terrible consequences." Ken Robinson 2006

“If there was a moment when our crisis in education hit critical mass it may well have been the date Sir Ken Robinson’s TED talk went up on YouTube. In just 19 minutes his wry but eviscerating presentation gave voice to what so many of us are living through: our schools are failing to recognize creativity; we’re failing to prepare the next generation for the challenges that lie ahead.”  - VANITY FAIR

I think his message is really important and valid. I'm going to find some of his books and I'll update this blog once I've done a bit more research.
